Design Brief
San Diego and Tijuana hold the title of World Design Capital in 2024. This means designers have been given the great opportunity to create a concept that represents either or both cities environmentally, economically, politically, culturally, and further more, and to then interchange it.
The process while creating my project involved creating a mood board, listing project ideas that connected to cultural exchange, gathering research on Mexican traditions and culture, buying materials to create my illustration book, and to assemble a "starter kit" for when you encounter a stray cat in Mexico.
Research & Planning
My idea was to create an illustration accordion book that included Mexican culture and cats. My idea of including cats had a lot to do with my Mexican family's value in cats. We see them as creatures that bring good luck and remove all our negative energy. The cats illustrated would work as a guide to demonstrate the many cultural aspects in Mexico.

Digital Prototype
My project, "La Cultura Mexicana Contada en la Perspectiva de un Gato," (Mexican Culture Told in a Cat's Perspective) was illustrated entirely on FireAlpaca. I used InDesign to include the text and gradients as the background.
Materials
The final accordion book is 4" by 4." The material I used to make the cover:
Blick's: Presentation board, Neutral pH Adhesive
Artist and Craftsmen: Book cloth, Black arches cover paper
Hobby Lobby: Natural Canvas Drawstring Bag
Pet Smart: Applaws - Cat Treats, Mouse Toy
